Unveiling the Truths of AI in MSK
with Kirsten Lord
A look at AI and how it fits with current MSK decision-making from an industry point of view
Kirsten Lord, founder of PhysioMedics™, unveils the truths of Artificial Intelligence in MSK decision-making.
In this presentation, we look at Artificial Intelligence and how this fits with current MSK decision-making, from an industry point of view. From automating workflows to faster routes to treatment, many are already seeing the benefits of technology in various healthcare and wellness settings. Some companies are already claiming to be Artificial Intelligence enabled, but to the average person on the street, the definition of AI lacks clarity and there is confusion about what this means.
True Artificial Intelligence refers to systems that run without humans. Some companies use this term to market products that are in reality fully programmed and therefore do not fit within this definition. In this discussion, we introduce the term 'Augment Intelligence', which relates to programmed intelligence that makes humans better at what they do and reflects what is actually happening in MSK healthcare. We then discuss the benefits of machine learning and the significance of structured, unbiased datasets, and how PhysioWizard has applied these principles to deliver a service that enhances the lives of both clinicians and patients.
Kirsten Lord, founder and Chief Clinical Officer for PhysioMedics™ will be presenting 'Unveiling the truths of AI in MSK' at the Charted Society of Physiotherapy's Virtual Physiotherapy UK 2021 conference running from the 5th - 6th November.

PhysioMedics™ is a digital healthcare innovation leader, providing software-as-a-service & data analytic insights to reduce costs and improve efficiencies in managing musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.
Qualifying as a physiotherapist in Adelaide, Australia in 1989, Kirsten moved to Scotland in 1991 and founded The Physio Centres (Edinburgh & Glasgow) in 1992, which she grew to become one of the biggest privately owned physiotherapy groups in Scotland providing in excess of 15,000 treatments per annum.
In 2010, Kirsten founded PhysioMedics™ a technology company that aims to improve the experience of those with muscle and joint conditions. Physiotherapists have the rare opportunity to make a significant impact on people’s lives and Kirsten recognised the potential of software to deliver personalised care at scale, for the wellbeing of numerous people.
Kirsten continues to lead the innovation and clinical development of the PhysioWizard® platform, an intuitive software-as-a-service (SaaS) MSK triage system that patients complete online to receive guidance, early advice and information. PhysioWizard® is a decision support tool that truly empowers patients. The platform improves operational efficiencies and reduces costs in organisations managing MSK conditions (Occupational Health, Health Insurance, physio network providers, private practices, NHS and Corporate Health & Wellness).
In short, Kirsten has built PhysioMedics™ on a foundation of the ethical care of people, changing the way patients want healthcare delivered and raising the bar on clinical care.
